Supporting the troops vs. Supporting the war

I was recently forwarded this video from my Dad, and even though I had seen it before it really struck home with me this time.  I realized that the last time I saw this piece, I was frustrated that the term “Support Our Troops!” was seemingly being used as a propaganda piece by the far right to infer that anyone who wasn’t supporting the war also wasn’t supporting the troops.

Because I was watching this video mostly through that filter, I think I mostly missed the point; which I think was probably just to give a voice to the thousands of very real people over seas who are trying to tell us, “I’m still over there. Please, remember me”.

p.s. If any of you think it’s a bit sappy or manipulative, just know that a 15 year old (unverified) made this… so, give her a break. ;)

One Response to “Supporting the troops vs. Supporting the war”

I think that the music could be better. I would have had a string of (audio) presidential quotes explaining the reasons for war, their want for it to end, the needs of the many and the sacrifices our troops make. You get the idea. Instead of what seems like an intended grab for tears by throwing a ‘few’ cheesy questions that seemed to lessen it for me. I felt is was more about playing the heart strings and less about what they may have wanted the message to convey. Orange border is… well it is uniform with the blog color theme but yes, it feels a bit odd.
