Well, I can now say I’ve done my homework on Senator Obama’s accomplishments. And what I’ve found is probably the reason why he is attracting some of the most educated people in this nation who have most definitely also done their homework, including some very prominent republicans, perhaps maybe even Colin Powell. These facts are a pretty clear refutation of John McCain’s ads which like to espouse that people are so clueless that they only support him because of some sort of “celebrity” status.
So, exactly what has Obama accomplished that is winning him support from both sides of the aisle in record numbers? The most informative article I’ve read on the subject was this piece written by Charles Peters of the Washington Post. But if that doesn’t quite convince you, please check a few of the following articles that sum up some of what Barack has accomplished in his last 11 years in public office:
- Bold legislative work on the Illinois Death Penalty, and how he made a difference between life and death.
- Sponsorship of a bill that brought health insurance to 150,000, including 70,000 uninsured Children.
- His work on both the immigration bill during his time in the US senate and his sponsorship of Ethics legislation (something he did both while in the State House, and in the Senate) that called for some of the most impactful reform regarding lobbyists since Watergate.
- Sponsored and co sponsored Bills in the U.S. Senate…….which include worthwhile bills dealing with a wide range of issues, from Election reform bills to the Cooperative Proliferation Detection Reduction Act (with Sen. Lugar) to the Internet Database Transparency Act.
- And here is an excellent chart of his record during his 8 years as an Illinois state Senator. To see the entire lengthy list of bills Senator Obama has sponsored in his relatively short period as a US Senator, go to Library of Congress’s website and select Obama’s name from the Senator drop down.
This does not lists all of his accomplishments, nor does it deals with his accomplishments prior to entering elected office. I can’t find any good articles on McCain’s record, but I found plenty of people wondering what they are too. Bottom line, it is McCain’s accomplishments since his Senate tenure that are not clear. He’s been there longer than Barack, and still has done underwhelming little compared to Obama’s accomplishments in less years.
Is this an indication of his future accomplishments?
Here is a link to an excellent chart that shows a very simple breakdown of both McCain’s and Obama’s future tax plans (and it should be noted, also clearly demonstrates that McCain’s latest attack ads are nothing more than blatant lies).
From a recent article on WashingtonPost.com, these figures are according to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution.
If the way McCain has ran his campaign in such a negative fashion, having the worst attendance record in the 110th Congress, and his own statements about “mission accomplished” were any indication of how he will run our White House, then I say, pass.
Obama has shown that he consistently inspires bipartisan support on issues, and can produce results under enormous odds, and that in itself speaks more to me than any other single issue in answering the question, “is he ready to lead?”

um…did you realize that you just sent a comment that got emailed to a real live person? Yes, I’m a real person. My name is Cody. Nice to meet you. Would you walk up to someone on the street and just start talking to them like that? Pretty rude. I’m not talking about disagreeing with my opinion. I’m talking about coming to someone’s blog unsolicited and crapping all over them.
I’m not a political analyst for MSNBC and I’m not publishing articles to the New York Times. I just took a stab at writing a blog post, which at the time I hadn’t even told my friends or family about. It was just for me.
So, thanks for your effort in trying to make me feel like an ass today. You’re really making a difference in the world with your style of political discourse. Winning people over left and right I bet.
