Some of my favorite videos from 2008

Most of the videos from my Top 10 Happy post would have to be included in this list as well,  but I didn’t repeat any of them here.  To see all the videos, don’t forget to click on the title above or the “click here…” link below.  Happy New Year, all…enjoy!!

Man Can Fly

Have you ever wanted to fly? Well, these guys aren’t so much flying as falling with style. This is one video you have to watch full screen.

P.S. I’m surprised they can glide so well considering the weight of their massive cajones.

Southern Stars

The three time lapse clips show the night sky from Namibia in southern Africa. The sun sets in the west and is followed by a broad and diffuse display of Zodiacal Light, i.e. interplanetary dust illuminated by the sun. The center of our milky way is rising in the opposite direction. The third view shows the apparent rotation of our sky around the south celestial pole. You can see all of this cinematographer’s videos here.

Best Come-Back of 2008

Division II Basketball Championship, Barton vs. Winona St. I’ve watched this over five times and I’m still amazed. Barton comes back to win the national championship, down 7 with 45 seconds to play. The win ended Winona State’s 50+ game win streak, dating back to the ’05-’06 season.

Excerpts from ‘Interpreting Iraq’

We’ve all been pretty distracted recently by the holidays, electing a new president, and the economy at home, but after watching this video I realized that I’ve somehow completely forgotten about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the 140,000+ troops still over there, and the casualties and wounded that are still happening every single day.

Here is a description of the documentary by the film makers of ‘Interpreting Iraq’: “A battalion of soldiers serving in Southern Baghdad, an interpreter fearing for his life, and a country thrown into the midst of confusion and chaos. In a compilation of excerpts from the feature documentary ‘Interpreting Iraq,’ we give a peek into these fiercely complex and terrifying times.”

Dolphin Blowing Bubble Rings

The music is “No One is Alone from Into the Woods” (Instrumental) by John Williams; The Boston Pops Orchestra. This video makes me care a little more about looking for the “dolphin safe” label when I buy tunafish.

Happy New Year!

This New Year’s spot was made by Belgium-based energy corporation, Electrabel, using stop-motion and 300,000 candles.  Even though it’s in French, you can watch the making of video here.

Happy New Year, everyone!!
